The pearl is wire wrapped onto a 5mm jump ring so it will
easily slide over the clasp if you want to another pendant to the chain.
At least one end of the chain needs to be smaller than 5mm to

The necklace is beautifully made and exactly what I was needing. I lost a similar one while on vacation that I had had for years and loved a lot. This replacement one helps the sting of that loss.
